Grand Canyon Devotion Series: 2. Pray About Your Fears September 6, 2026

1. Scripture

Psalm 34:4–7 (ESV)

4 I sought the Lord, and he answered me

    and delivered me from all my fears.

5 Those who look to him are radiant,

    and their faces shall never be ashamed.

6 This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him

    and saved him out of all his troubles.

7 The angel of the Lord encamps

    around those who fear him, and delivers them. 

2. Reflection

• Recognizing Fear as a Common Experience: Fear is a universal human reality, whether it involves the unknown, failure, loss, or vulnerability (Gen 3:10).

• (4) God’s Assurance of Deliverance from Fear: God actively delivers us from fear, promising peace, protection, and His ever-present help when we turn to Him (Ro 8:14-15).

• (5) Confronting Fear with Truth: The radiant face of those who look to God reflects His truth that overcomes fear. (Ps 27:1).

• (6) Receiving God’s Transforming Love: Recognize that God’s love casts out fear, and His salvation delivers from shame.  (1 Jn 4:18).

• (7) Taking Action in Faith: Look to God for courage and strength to act, even in fear, knowing He encamps around us.  (James 2:17).

3. Application

• What fears do you have and what is holding you back from trusting him to meet us with his comfort? How do we let go of these fears and let God take control? What do we gain from that?

• Pray for God to empower us to take steps of faith and for obedience to God’s command, especially in areas where fear has held us back. James 2:17.
